Hi All,
Sorry for the silly question but I'm new in this.
I need to connect 2 IDE devices that are not close to each other (HD
and a CD)
(my second ide controller already got 2 devices connected to it).
My question is: Can I connect the cable in reverse (as the connectors
on the cable ends looks the same).
Basiclly what I'm asking is if some of the 80 wires of the IDE cable
are crossed in some way. Or is there is anything special on the one
next to the red strip on the cable.
Regards,
Viktor

I have my plextor premium, and second hard drive connected with the 80pin
IDE cable round the wrong way in motherboard, never had any problems, drives
recognise fine, and no degrade in performance.!

Yes you can. I have rebuilt 3 different systems in the last 2 years
with teh IDE cables attatched "backwards"(the end that is used for the
hds, cd/rom etc plugged into the mobo and the hd plugged into the end
that the mobo should be plugged into.
When I asked the customers about it, I got the same response.
Apparently there is a fellow in this area that builds home built
computers and claims that he "has never gone to school to learn how" .
Amazing...
