I'm having a small issue with this new system- 2.6(800 fsb), 80gig (@7200), 512ram (@400), with Norton AV and ZoneAlarm. The thing that I do not understand is this: around every half a minute or so the pointer turns to the hourglass for a second or two. I tried limiting all the small things that run in the backround (indexing, auto-update for windows, NAV, WMP etc.) but this does not seem to help. I decided to try putting zone alarm on lock- locking the net- and see if this little process was trying to access the net. It turns out that ZoneAlarm tells me that 'Messenger' was trying to connect with 'My Computer' (which would be the name of this computer on the local network) It seems that Messenger (whatever that is) is trying to communicate with this very computer through the LAN and this is this little time off for thinking. Does anyone know what this may be or how to stop this? Also, would it be ok for me to just shut off 'Messenger' from starting up to begin with?
I have another question: when I try and access a local folder through networking in explorer (ie. networking/mycomputer/shared files) instead of going to them directly on the local drive, the window will crash and close immediately... not causing harm to anytning else, just close itself. Anyone know why?
