too much tasks processes going on

What is the minimum tasks I need to leave active in the
task manager to continue using windows ? I keep locking
(freezing ) my winows xp up and I think there is to much
junk starting up when I start windows

10 at the most but it mighten be the task manager thats
making your computer freeze it could me a problem with
the system itself
 
Wherever did you get that figure? XP starts a lot more processes than that
by default but I doubt VERY much it's any of the windows processes causing
the problem.

Run MSConfig and see what's being started up in there. Disable anything you
know not to be part of Windows in the startup sections and reboot. Try
using the system for awhile and see how it goes.

Also, you should run a virus scan with uptodate definitions and also scan
for spyware using software like AdAware or Spybot...
