Too Much Memory???

I recently upgraded a Dell Dimension from 512MB ram to 1280MB. We have
an older program, (around 2001) Stromberg Time in a Box v2.5, that
will not start. I get a message The Computer is Un-Authorized to run
this Program. I'm not on support and don't want to pay for it. Sales
told me this is too much memory for this program. We tried
"Compatibility Mode" for Windows 98 and Windows 95 and would not work.
Is there any way I can tell this program to only recognize 512MB
memory?

There is no such thing as 'too much memory'.

Sounds like you don't have the necessary permission to access the
application. If this was an application that you purchased and setup
yourself, you would not have this issue.

Here is Stromberh Support:

It doesn't appear to be a permission issue; we removed memory back to
512 and the program opens fine...

Maybe the program checks the computer's configuration before starting as
a form of copy protection. It sees differences in the setup and assumes
that it is on a new computer and needs to be installed "properly" before
it will work.

When running msconfig...
In the advanced options of boot.ini
there is the ability to limit memory ...
but of course you'd have to create two seperate boot configurations
(assuming that limiting memory in boot.ini would do the trick)

This seems to tell "us" that the program was never "developed" to be
ran off the newer PC configs. Ther does not seem to be a method of
limiting memory direectly in XP. You might want to like at Virtual PC
(??) which you might be able to set up a RAM limit.
