Dear Group,

I have an XP on a new Dell that I use wirelessly in a new
apt complex. The problem is there are other wireless
access points in the building that are popping up in my
wireless settings as priority over my existing access
point connection. How can I limit those wireless access
points from showing up in my wireless configuration....?

Thanks cr...

Don't know what type of wireless u have, but if you have
Dell TrueMobile:

1. Configure your access point: rename it to something
other than the default, change the password, and enable
WEP.

2. Right-click on wireless signal bargraph in system
tray, select "Open Utility"

3. On "Wireless Networks" tab, click the "Advanced"
button on the bottom. Clear the "Automatically connect
to non-preferred networks" checkbox, then click "OK".

3. In "Preferred Networks", remove all listed networks.

4. In "Available Networks", highlight your network
(should be easy to spot, since you renamed it in step
1), click "Configure", and enter the appropriate WEP
info (also from step 1). Click "OK".

5. You should now see only your network in "Preferred
Networks" and should also connect shortly.

6. Reconfigure your access point: Don't broadcast your
WLAN ID (if possible).

Good luck,

Steve
