Too many software programs won't run on Vista.

And it won't accept my scanner drivers.

I'm not sure what you're looking for here. Did you need some kind of
support? What kind of scanner is it? What programs aren't running?

Yes scanners sure can be a problem allright.

I know that when XP came out...if a driver was not available...
a Win2k driver usually worked fine...

But with Vista...I don't know if it will accept an XP driver.

BTW: Did you check the website of the manufacturer of the scanner...
they may have a Vista driver or possibly info on future availability.

I just installed my old EPSON 1650 scanner using drivers that came out
for Win2k. Works fine on VISTA.

Most XP drivers for scanners, printers, webcams etc do work. It's the
stupid installer checks and the extra bundled software that has all the
problems.

In that case the scanner's .inf file could be extracted from an XP machine.
If that cannot be done there is always VueScan, which works with just about
any scanner and has its own drivers. Some people report that after
installing VueScan, their scanners work in other Vista programs where as
before they had no drivers available. The trial (watermarks) of VueScan is
free.

My HP PSC 1215 printer, scanner, copier works fine in Vista using XP
drivers. As you say, Paul, the accompanying software is the problem. Because
HP's software will not install on Vista i no longer have the option of
checking the Ink capacity, nor do i have the HP printer icon in the
notification area. But, as we are all aware with HP products, there answer
to these problems is simple - buy another printer that is Vista compatible.
Well it's good for sales, but if they think i'm buying a new printer just to
get their rubbish software to work they can think again, they'll certainly
have a long wait!

John, are you saying that you was able to get the scanner software to
install ? I'm still trying to get the software for my PSC7210 installed and
it's just not happening. Like Paul said, it kicks out on the OS version
check. How did you get around that ?
