Hi there everyone,

Hope some SBS guru out there can help me!

I'm administering a new SBS 2003 network, mostly W2K workstations. There are
about 8 printers defined on the server, all connected via JetDirect boxes.
We used the standard wizards to set the workstations up on the domain.

When the users log on to the network they get ALL the network printers added
to their list of printers (eg 'Tally 2070 on Alpha' etc etc). Even if you
delete them, they all the come back again when the user logs off and on
again.

How can I stop the network printers reappearing automatically? I want to
specify who sees which printer on a user by user (or even machine by
machine) basis, I don't want everyone to see all the printers. I'm happy to
set up each printer manually on the workstation. I just don't want everyone
seeing all the printers by default.

Thanks in advance,

Miranda

You can set permissions on the share for each of the printer-- they may
still be able to see it but they won't be able to make use of it. Or if you
share it with a $ at the end, it will hide the name from everyone and you
can just manually tell people the names they need to know.

Anyway, I think the problem you are having relates to the automatic
discovery of network printers. AFAIK, only XP does this, but I'm not sure.
