too many popup ads, keyboard problems, and more

Lately my computer's been doing a lot of crazy things: it all started with me getting an unbearable amount of popups. However, now sometimes when I'm typing (in instant messages, textboxes, or documents), my keyboard will go into caps lock on and off, even when I try to change it back, or it'll just stop working period. Not only this, but sometimes using the middle scroll button on my mouse causes webpages fonts to get huge and small, or even act as a back and forward button. It wasn't too long ago when there were files on my computer that I hadn't downloaded, so I was wondering if this could be a sign of a hacker, spyware, or maybe a virus? What's the problem and what should I do?
 
1. Do a virus scan with up to date software.
2. Go to www.lavasoftusa and download Ad aware6 (free) to get rid of
spyware.
3. Go to www.panicware.com and download PopUp Stopper (free) to get rid of
popups.
