Hi Cindy,
You can search Google Groups on your error message
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?q=group:*Excel*&num=100
Search all words: "Too Many Different Cell Formats"
author: Leo Heuser
Since the answers you are looking for have been posted by Leo Heuser
I included his name as author for your search as well as shown above
to see if there are updates. There is a later posting but I think the code
in the link below is probably the most up to date.
You can you can look at the fairly useless MS KB article first (old Q163678)
XL: Error Message: Too Many Different Cell Formats
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;213904
code posted by Leo Heuser (watch for line wrap on the link below)
removes unused formats
http://google.com/groups?threadm=Op2qcqh1AHA.2236@tkmsftngp02
You will have to fix the syntax errors in RED after copying because
of line wrapping when posted. You may reduce some additional same
problems by using "View this article only".
Post back if you can't really open the file, others including myself have
been able to open the file, delete a format or two, then install Leo's
code and run it.
Since you posted to misc you may need instructions to install/use a macro
