Too Long To Install Applications

Just last night I noticed that when I am installing an application, it takes
a very long time and there is an enormous amount of disk activity while this
is taking place. Sometimes the install gauge will say, for example, six
seconds left, and two minutes later it will say 15 seconds left. Eventually
the install is successful, but what could be happening that would cause
this?
Thanks,
Dave

Temporarily disable your virus scanner when installing (and uninstalling)
software.

Hi,

Are you installed the application through on-line
downloading?
If yes, the transfer bit rate through the modem is
unstable.

Peter

No, I was referring to applications installed from CDs or ones that were
installed after download.
Thanks,
Dave

That's a good idea, Tom, but why did the problem suddenly appear when I have
been using the same virus scanner without any slow installation problems for
several weeks now?
Could I have changed a setting?
Thanks,
Dave

Doesn't matter. Antivirus software should always be disabled when
installing/uninstalling. If you're really interested to know why some
installs work even with a virus scanner running, you'll have to contact the
developers, as I don't have the source code in front of me.
