I quote below a couple of messages from previous discussions.

Is it possible to do the same with a sound on/off text box on the master
slide? I have tried, but have not been successful. Don't want to do it on
111 individual slides!

Thank you.

Brian.

The best bet is to spend a tiny amount on officeOne's volume control addin
which among lots of other things will add a mute checkbox.

That you for the link. Looks interesting and versatile. I wonder why sound
control is not built into PowerPoint.

Brian.

Yeah, the sound controls are actually achieved via animations (trigger and
automatic). Because animations are a per-slide thing, but the sound is
inserted on one slide and set to run across slides, you don't have per-slide
control over the sound.

My presentation has 111 slides and the sound content varies; the voice of
Prime Minster Chambelain announcing declaration of war; various WWII
aircraft noises; Prime Minister Churchill; popular singer Vere Lynn; and
so on.

So, it looks as if I can't have an on/off control on the master slide. If
the presentation is run in a window rather than full screen, the Windows
controls would be available I suppose. Not what I wanted, but might be the
best way out of it!

Sounds trigger on and off when you click the sound icon. Or you can set up a
trigger animation on the slide that lets a different object toggle the sound
on and off.

If you have separate sounds on each slide, and not a background track as the
original post indicated, then you sure can toggle them on and off. But it's
a per-sound thing, so you're right that you can't put such a toggle on the
master.

If you just want to completely turn the sound off (or on) for the whole
presentation, set up custom shows -- one with sound, one without -- and a
menu slide to choose between the two.

Good idea. There's plenty of disc space to allow for that. Thanks for the
suggestion.
