Hi,

I have created a TOC in a template, but if fails to recognise new or removed
headings. The TOC is created automatically from the Insert menu in word 97.
Does anybody have a clue?

Hi again,

It seems that there's something wrong with a global template - when I unload
it things seem to work. Which kind of setting affects the TOC update? When
the global template is loaded I'm not even asked whether I want to update
just page numbers or the entire field!

OK - found the problem. You should not have a macro called UpdateFields - as
this obviously overwrites some built-in word stuff!

Thanks for the selftherapeutic effect these 'talking to myself' postings
have had ;o)

Do the following to display a list of Word's built-in commands: Select
Tools > Macro > Macros (or press ALT+F8) to display the Macro dialog
box. In the "Macros in" box, select "Word commands". If you ever use
one of the names here for a macro it will override the built-in
command. Note that commands are listed in the language of your Word
installation. However, in my experience, at least for Swedish Word
versions, you can override a built-in Word command using either its
Swedish or its English name. (If you have Office 2000 or later
installed, you can enable English for dialog boxes and menus, in which
case you will see the English names of commands instead.)
