Where can I go to find out how to properly set my

The black viper website posted in a reply to you is a good one. But
if you are running enough RAM memory, like 1 gig, I wouldn't mess with
anything.

Why not? There are some items that could be shut down and others that should
be shut down regardless of memory size.

Of course. But those are suggestions. If you are totally sure you
won't be needed such&such, then fine.

That's why I said "if you had 1 gig I wouldn't mess with it", just
because you have such a surplus of RAM. I am guessing & putting a
round figure on it, that changing everything he suggests saves you 50
MBs. Well what's the dif between 400 MBs loading in RAM for me & 350
MBs loading - I still have 600/650 MBs RAM free. I look at my CPU
usage & though the extra stuff is loaded in RAM that I can disable or
put on manual (instead of automatic) as Viper points out, the CPU is
doing nothing, hence those unneeded loaded programs are not doing
anything. So that's all - why mess with it?

But running less than 1 gig I can see...

BTW I have re-installed Windows a week ago after an unsolved
intermittent rebooting problem - another reason I am reluctant to
change some of those settings- which I had done previously. & even
though I'd bet those changes had nothing to do with it.. you know,
same suggestion - why mess with it at 1 gig RAM...
