to MS: how to search for older articles?

Please don't tell me that google is the only way... A www-based
interface is not very handy to deal with when searching through
thousands of articles. Is there a "archive xp embedded newsgroup" that's
accessible via news protocol?
Thanks!

Google - and before it dejanews - are the most effective way to get at old
articles. NNTP servers rarely hold posts for more than a couple of weeks.

Thanks Linda!
a pitty since it is very clear to have the news all together in a
newsgroup (maybe a readonly-archive group). In my eyes a web interface
is not ideal.

You mean, you would prefer downloading the entire content ever posted to a
newsgroup, and searching through this amount of data locally?

well, as for me, I sure don't.

No, I mean I'd like to use the protocol. It downloads only the
headers (if you like). So you can do a search within. The article is
only downloaded when you're going to open it.

Personally I'm not too thrilled by the idea of a search that is limited to
headers alone, especially if I still have to download all of them first.
But there is no arguing over personal preferences.

You can tell outlook to get more than last 300 messages, this way you can go
to the start of the year maybe even in last year.

But this is very ugly, and hard to use.
Only way that this request could be partially justified is that you use
dial-up.

Outlook? Uh, I don't use this virusfriendly tool (using Mozilla). With
downloading all headers I can reach the most of 2003...

I was searching for some FBA-related topics 'cause I didn't want to pose
all these formerly-posted questions again. But it seems that google must
be my friend. That's life.

BTW: your RAM EWF workes great for me! That's what I searched for all
the time without knowing it (this strange hidden partition ever was a
great handycap in the cloning process). Thanks for the tool!
