ok i've tried linux via knoppix due to my inability to play by the rules, and download copyright software...

0ops :p

Limewire was my downfall,
then i uncovered this wealth of knowledge (comparative to mine)
asked a few questions and discovered live linux (knoppix in my case)
recovered my data after playing with knoppix's tools

anyway it opened my eyes to this 'new' way of operating my system, what i really wanted to know, was if i needed any knowledge of proggraming etc to benefit from using linux compared to windows

thanks for ur time :)

No, you don't need any programming skills but what you do need to know are some basic Linux text command lines.

Kinda like in MS DOS, if ever you used that.

There's a wealth of information on the Net and many, many reasonably priced books available.

Mostly though, with modern Linux Distros, you can largely avoid using the console (command line thingie).

I like Suse a lot but there are many to choose from.

Distrowatch is a good place to start.

btw, you done well to recover your data :thumb:

I'll cheat and just quote Floppy ... :D

I will add ...

If you play games, Linux is not for you.

Linux is NOT Windows ... it is not trying to be Windows ... Linux does what Linux does best ... it just works.

Me like my Suse ... ;)

You could, of course, always dual boot, just use Windows for games :)

Very popular option lately....
