Thanks John,

The hyperlinks are not textbased.
I use tranparant (invisible)overlays, i put them over the text, these
overlays will be set as a hyperlink.
Does that matter?

Max

Hi Max

Hyperlinks to slides will usually still work if extra slides are inserted.

There is a limit to the memory area that stores hyperlinks (about 32K). The
shorter the hyperlink text the more you'll get in!

I'd make them 99% transparent as opposed to 100% transparency.

This is because there's a bug somewhere (I think it's in the 2003 Viewer,
but I can't remember for sure), and links on 100% transparent objects don't
work.

Hi Echo

Yes I always make them 99% too BUT 100% works fine in pptviewer 2003. Maybe
it was 97?

Hello,

How many hyperlinks can i put in 1 single presentation, is there a
maximum?
The presentation is later used and viewed in the PowerPointviewer,
production in PP2003.

And, when i 'finished' the presentation with all the hyperlinks preset and
ready and there's a need to put some slides extra in the presentation,
does that mean that the already built in hyperlinks do change automaticly
with the new ones?
So that i don't need to change them myselve but that powerpoint will do
that automaticly.

Thanks in advance, max

Well, crud.

I think this was one of those things that we weren't able to pin down --
maybe it would happen sometimes, but not always? I know I spent some time
with this when I wrote that section of my book, and in fact, I ended up with
an annoyance called "Hyperlinks Don't Work in PowerPoint Viewer 2003." So I
know I was able to repro it in the 2003 Viewer at that time.

I believe Microsoft has uploaded newer versions of the PPT 2003 Viewer for
download, and I suspect the problem was fixed in one of the versions. But
since it's not obvious it will be a problem until it *is* a problem, I say
plan accordingly and get in the habit of using 99% transparency. (Unless, of
course, the file will be shown in PPT 2000, 97, or the 97 Viewer, which
don't support the transparency in autoshapes. But in that case, the 100%
transparency wouldn't be wise anyway.)

Hi John,

You wrote: "There is a limit to the memory area that stores hyperlinks

Would you please explain to me what you meant by hyperlink text.

(1) Is hyperlink text a path to a file, an URL, an e-mail address ......
i.e. the choices we make when we do insert > hyperlink

OR

(2) the keyed in or pasted text in a placeholder/textbox that we highlight
and insert hyperlink to?

I am ignorant on this. Appreciate your guidance.

By the way, have you got my message titled "Hurray! Hurray!?"

Cheers,

Epinn

Good question.

It's the first -- the text that makes up the path to the file, URL, etc.

Hi John,

In this case, the hyperlink text would be the information that PPT stores about
each hyperlink.

When you hyperlink from one slide to another, PPT stores a few numbers PLUS the
title text of the slide linked to, so if your slides have very long titles,
you'll eat up the available hyperlink storage space rather quickly.

If you link to files or URLs, PPT stores the entire path to the file or the
entire URL, so it pays to be short with those where possible.

Steve,

Thanks for the details. I appreciate it. This is interesting - store the
title text of the slide!! I didn't know until you told me. I thought it
would just store the slide no. It looks like both the slide # and title text
are stored. So, the system still knows which slide to link to even though I
have the **same** title text for two different slides.

Thank you so much.
