Hi As part of my recent Action Pack, i received a copy of Vita Beta 2 - no
other information as to build etc on DVD. I have resisted installing it
onto my laptop Vaio 2GB RAM 100 HDU 1.86 Ghz processor.

Went to see a demo today at Microsoft Roadshow and really want to install,
so I can start getting used to it, but dont want to screw up my laptop.

Should I install or wait for release version to be made availabnle?

Thanks
A

You can install it, but BETA 2 is such an old build today. Milestone builds
have come and gone such as RC1, 2 and interim releases 5744. I personally
would wait until the Trial available later this year.

As Shakespeare or whoever wrote those plays would say the ball is really in
your court.

My humble opinion is that if you have a Vista enthusiast penchant, until
you obtain RTM vai the panoply of methods outlined here, you can drill Vista
using RC2 if you have access, and many of us while lamenting that Vista
RTM'd (we knew it would with a number of features not working optimally or
left on the cutting room floors at Redmond, have been able to use Vista as a
production OS working around the bugs and the lamentally slow supply of
drivers by 3rd party for well over a year) go on and install RC2. Begin to
use it. If you have a way to get your hands on RTM within say a couple
days, hold off. If not, use RC2 and then when you get RTM backup or move
what you had there you want to save, format the drive and install RTM. Badda
bing.

I subscribe to that well known Shakesperian literature concept as espoused
in "All's Well that Ends Well" and "Winter of Discontent", and particularly
in "Macbeth"

"Out Out Damn'd Vista" (V.i)

"Vista is a tale of sound and fury " (V.v.19-28)

Chad....

Your Shakespeare quotations are enlightening, but the guy you're talking to
has Beta 2, not RC2.

Thanks David.

I just emailed Shakespeare and copied Francis Bacon just in case, and they
both emailed me back and I pass this on to you (I think we have to give
these guys a modicum of deference in their Vista insights):

"Beta 2, RC2 are still both a normal Beta 1 as is RTM so it ain't no big
thing. If we were Alex, I'd install the latest Vista build I could get my
hands on, since he seems interested in it, and then when convenient put the
RTM thing on there."

BETA 1 and 2 are two different build branches, so is RTM, so yes, its a big
deal. Most of preview reports about BETA 2 were that it was a horrendous
build and 5456 should have been designated as Beta 2 instead.

Thanks Guys :)

i think I will wait a week or so and see if i can get hold of a RTM copy

Thanks for the input anyway
