titling columns

is there a way to give titles to the upper portion of the spreadsheets (that
are listed A, B, C, etc.)? also, the same for the left side (1, 2, 3, etc.)?

No, but one technique is to turn these indicators off so you can't see
them. You can put your own titles or headings in row 1 and down column
A and then with the cursor in B2 do Window | Freeze Panes, which will
make it look like you have your own headings.

However, you have to be careful with any formulae on the sheet.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply - how do i do the window/freeze panes thing? also, the
main problem is that when i scroll down on the spreadsheet, the headings
disappear - any way i can make headings so they continuously appear on the
top, even when i scroll down the page?

Yes, that is the Freeze Panes bit. Position the cursor in cell B2,
click Window from the top menu, then click Freeze Panes. You will now
find that row 1 and column A are "frozen" as you scroll around the
sheet. If you only want the headings to be fixed in place, click Window
| Unfreeze Panes, position the cursor in cell A2 then click Window |
Freeze Panes again. If you want two rows of headings, put the cursor in
A3 etc.

Hope this helps.

for some reason, 'freeze panes' is not a highlighted option when i got to
'windows.' would you happen to know how i can make that option available (i'm
using an apple computer...)
