I followed the Help advice and have gotten to the part where I can add a
title to my movie. The problem is, I don't have a Task button to select so I
can get to these features. Do I need an upgrade?

Stumped? Not exactly...what version
of Movie Maker are you using? And
what happens if you go to...Tools /
Titles and Credits?

Version 1.1.2427.0

There are no Tools that I can find.

I have at the top of the window: File, Edit, View, Clip, Play, Help

Next level button images: New Project, Open Project, Save Project, Cut,
Copy, Paste, Delete, Toggle Clip Properties, Save Movie, Send, Record,
Up One Level, New Collection, Collections, Views

These are all of my options that I can see.

Sorry, but I don't have version 1.1 and
cannot experiment with it to find the
correct steps for you. Maybe someone
who still has the 1.1 version can offer
some assistance or you might wish
to download and install a newer version
of Movie Maker.

You can download version 2.0 from the
following link:

MovieMaker 2.0

And, if you want the current version 2.1
you can get it by installing SP2 for
Windows XP.
