I found a recent discovery recently and decided to share my input since
my personal search for the answer never yeilded any results.
Once you obtain a Windows 2000 disc, including any (if applicable)
service pack are encoded onto the boot disks. If you ever slipstream a
CD with a later service pack, the original boot disks fail to work, it
demands the old service pack CD.
The fix:
Go ahead and create the boot floppies, keeping them numbered of
course. Once all 4 are made, at minimum, you need to copy the
\i386\TXTSETUP.SIF file to the 1st bootdisk, replacing the file that's
there.
That will allow you to boot and use your new slipstreamed CD. If you
want to prevent yourself from the need of recopying the TXTSETUP.SIF
file every time, simply make an image of the disk and replace the
CDBOOT1.IMG file on the CD in \bootdisk. I personally use dd
<http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#aboutdd>
An untried subject is to copy any file that is identical in the boot
diskettes from the \i386 -- updating files so you have the latest.
I hope everyone has an excellent day!
