Timing of Transitions

V

Vickie

I have continuing issues getting my transitions right. I
know to pull the transition from the left to make it
bigger, but then the picture moves. I go back and move
the picture over in the timeline, and then pull again.
But I can't seem to get it right. I think it has to do
with the overlapping of pictures and transitions, and I am
sure there is an easy trick to it. While I have
papajohn's book, and read the directions, I still can't
make some of the transitions as "long" as I want them.
Any hints out there?

Hi Vickie,

The transition is created by the overlap of the two pictures on the video
track. If you increase the duration of the transition, Movie Maker needs to
move over the second picture to make this happen.
To time your transitions to an exact duration, you can always set the
transition duration in your Options: Go to Tools --> Options, click on the
Advanced tab, and change the transition duration. All new transitions you
add to the timeline after that will be of the new duration that you set.
Does that help?

Thanks,
Latha

Hello there,

Have you looked at the help file that comes with Movie Maker? I have
just typed one word in it, Transitions. It produced 26 distinct results.

The first few are...

1) Working with video transitions
2) To change the video transition
3) About the timeline
4) To add a video transition
5) Using Video transitions, Video Effects, and titles
6) Setting Advanced Options
7) To remove a video transition
8) Splitting and combining clips
9) About the contents pane
10) To specify default durations
11) Using Windows Movie Maker
12) editing projects
13) saving a project

etc etc etc

The above is provided free. Buying a book which can tell you no more than
has already been provided to you for free is a little daft. No book on the
subject of movie maker can tell you more or in any way change the
functionality of this program. If you would like a relatively cheap book
from the authors of the software themselves, simply load up the previously
mentioned help file and print it. You will then have an authoritative view
on how the program should be used by the people who wrote the program
itself. What could be better than that?

Best Wishes.....John Kelly
