Simon

I am just starting to use Excell 2000. I want to make a
times tables eg 1,2,3-10 at the top of column B - K, and
1,2,3-10 at the beginning of row 2 - 11. What would be
the formula I type into B2 that I could then fill into
the rest of my table and I would have correct
multiplication in each cell.
Please e-mail me an answer. It has been driving me crazy.
I know it must be simple.
Cheers

In cell B2:
=B$1*$A2

That is, keep the header rows and column absolute, everything else is
relative.
Please e-mail me an answer.

Sorry, not usually done in these parts.

Hello Simon,

Enter in B2 =$A2*B$1. Then copy B2 & paste to K11 or your
desired range.

The '$' sign is to tell Excel to not alter column or row
reference ie. making it absolute reference.

Example:
$A2 --> Disallow column ref change / Allow row ref change
B$1 --> Allow column ref change / Disallow row ref change
$J$6 --> Disallow both column & row change
H12 --> Allow both column & row change

Everybody starts somewhere. No worries. Have fun with
Excel. It's trully an amazing application.
