my son is trying to upload an audio file to go along with his pp
presentation file - but it keeps timing out - is there anyway to set
something so that it won't time out? its a huge file 66 meg -and there is
plenty of room on the server 100,000 meg - but fp2003 keeps timing out -
he's on 1 and 1 server if that helps

thanks
Pam

For a file that big you're better off using an FTP program like Cute FTP or
WS_FTP. When you FTP the file up to your web site make sure that you ONLY
FTP the file and not any of the _vti folders. If you do you'll corrupt the
FrontPage Server Extensions. If you FTP only the file you can open your web
afterward and do a Tools, Recalculate Hyperlinks to get everything in sync.

sometimes I can sneak a big file into the server by this process:
open the live web with FrontPage, click the folder you want the file in on
the left (folders pane) to select it, then hit file/ import/ file (browse to
the file and select it). let FrontPage import it.
I've gotten by with this for large video files and graphics files (.psd,
..png, etc). I don't think anything in the 60MB range.
as an aside, he may want to compress that file some before uploading it.

I was wondering about that but wasn't sure if we could go ftp - but that
seems like an easy idea to try

will do that

There are generally user configurable options in whatever program you use to
edit or change sound file formats.
Where did the MP3 come from?

Normally we'd tell you not to use FTP since it can corrupt the server
extensions but as long as you only FTP files and not all the _vti folders
then you won't corrupt them. FTP is useful for big files, databases or
being able to change permissions (CHMOD) if you're on a Unix/Linux based
server.
