Timeout error message

This is a new one. I've been using FP 2002 for three years to create and
publish my website...and just recently have been getting this error message

Microsoft Frontpage

The Server "" timed out. The current request did not complete successfully.


It first happened when I tried to republish my entire site...while I was
able to publish a couple of pages at a time. Then I noticed the same error
message come up when I tried to access certain folders in my folder list
within FP.

I have done a detect and repair and a complete un/reinstall, no change.

No virus or spyware activity detected.

This is dreadful...I am looking forward to installing Adobe Go-Live.

I have restructured my navigation, otherwise, page by page publishing would
be adequate for now. Any thoughts here much appreciated. Thanks JRA
 
My error...I believe...I found a folder that I placed in "My Webs", where I
store my site material...it was unrelated to the site and not part of the
structure, so when I went to publish, the error message came up...and as it
was alphabetically the 2nd folder, the time out happened very quickly. Taking
my foot out of my mouth, yours, JRA

Still looking forward to using my new Adobe products...but admittedly I was
name dropping and mud-slinging at the same time...til the next event....JRA
 
FP will not support folders w/ punctuation (like.this or that's) or that contain non web related type files (exe, db, etc), or will
time out if the files are too large (over 1MB)
What types of file are in the folder, what is the problem folder name

Explain "open the folder w/i FP"
You have the FP site open in FP
- and have run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
You are opening the folder in Folder List or Folder View?

I have opened the Folder List to view the files - when I try to expand this
specific folder within "Folder List" I get the timeout error message. All my
other folders work fine. I haven't run a Recalculate Hyperlinks because I
don't recall doing that in the beginning. I'm trying not to use too many of
frontpages' tools as we only want to use FP for the sourcecontrol. If it
weren't for that we'd use CuteHtml to update our pages. I suppose if the
answer is to recalculate the hyperlinks, my question would be does that put
any MS propriatary code on the pages or anything like that?

A Recalculate hyperlinks does not add code to pages
- it may update links/content in page that have changed due to any FP webbots used (include pages etc)
- but it does update the FP meta data files in the web which seem to be corrupt

This is AL
I have been publishing with frontpage successfully until I changed
permissions on my subweb to unique. Now it asks me for a logon and password
and will not recognize any of my log ins or passwords as well as now I get
server connection timed out when I try to republish my entire web. I cannot
get rid of the subweb folder since it will not accept any of my logins or
passwords, so I thought if I publish the entire web again it would ask me if
I want to get rid of the subweb that is not on my local computer. Can anyone
help me PLEASE?
 
At this point you need to contact your web host to reset your permissions and/or to delete the
subweb.

One you have set a subweb with unique permissions you can not publish the root web and include
subwebs. You must publish subwebs individually.

Thank you Thomas. I had the web host reset the permissions and that did not
work. So what I did was have the host convert the subweb to a folder then I
open my local web site in frontpage and viewed the remote in the same
session. it showed as a folder then I was able to delete it from the hosting
server. That finally got rid of it. I still don't understand why, after I
changed to unique permissions for the subweb that it would not recognize my
login and password on the subweb in frontpage. I didn't change my login or
password or anything else. Well may it just got corrupted. Again Thank you
for your help.
