I've been searching and reading posts for the past several days about
the timeline audio distortion problem many people have written about.
A year or more ago, the last time I tried to edit video, everything
worked fine. Something i installed or changed since then is likelly
causing the problem.
The problem is not confined to Movie Maker. A trial version of "Video
Edit Magic" has the identical audio problem on my system. This seems
to mean that the operating system has allowed a software installation
to replace files that at least two video editing programs rely on in
editing mode (timeline).
Maybe a solution for this has been posted somewhere and I've over
looked it. Someone suggested a method for reinstalling Movie Maker. I
tried this and was asked for an SP2 disk, which i don't have since SP2
was a download. There was another method offered to re register a dll
which also made no difference. I found a list of *.ax files that can
cause problems. I had one of them and renamed it without effect.
The Microsoft website does not acknowledge the problem exists. No
doubt the Microsoft Movie Maker team knows the problem, and the
solution, and has been told to let us turn in the wind.
Since the problem is not Move Maker's alone, purchasing an alternative
video editor does garrantee a solution.
If there's a proven solution I've overlooked, a heads up would be
appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
