Timed Audio Recording Software

I know this will be a weird request, but does anyone know of Audio
Recording Software that can be set to start recording at a certain time, or
that could be run by the Windows Task Manager to begin recording?

In our modern age we have TiVo, but we don't have a good way to record AM
radio shows. I thought of a low cost option, but I would need to find
software that would record on a timer. I could hook up my radio to the
sound card then have it plugged into a timer in the electrical socket, then
it could turn on at a certain time and the computer could start recording
the input.

Thanks for any ideas you have. Just thought I would introduce a weird
idea.

Take a look at this old program: Messer

Not weird at all. I do this routinely. FWIW, I don't bother with the
timer for the radio, I just leave it on. Draws a lot less current than
the computer... :)

Messer, http://www.dago.pmp.com.pl/messer/, can do timed recordings.
It's no longer being developed, but works fine, and is still
available. It can do on-the-fly mp3 encoding, as well.

Another is wave repair, http://www.delback.co.uk/wavrep/. This is
shareware, but it has a freeware mode, and the record to disk feature
works in the freeware mode. I haven't used it, but I believe it has a
timer that can be used in the freeware mode.

Far from being a weird request, it almost qualifies for FAQ status.

Messer, mentioned by others, is good but flakey in a few respects. (IIRC,
it interferes with shutdown, or something like that.)

I like a combination of two programs:

HarddiskOgg to do the recording:

http://www.fridgesoft.de/harddiskogg.php

Although, as the name suggests, it's especially intended to record with Ogg
Vorbis encoding, it will also record .wav or .mp3 files. Mp3 recording
requires installation of the LAME encoder; there's a link on the page cited
above.

For scheduling, I use nnCron lite:

http://www.nncron.ru/

I should note that some may object to nnCron Lite, as it is the freeware
sibling of nnCron, a shareware program with more features. According to
the web page, the lite version is "tiny, powerful and easy to use." It is
a scheduler, while the shareware version is a "full-blown automation
manager." nnCron lite works perfectly well for stopping and starting
HarddiskOgg.

Hi, my stereo records shows at any time you want. Don't remember the
brand but it is a 52CD player with dual tape deck, AM/FM radio, and
detached speakers. They probably don't even make it anymore, but we
bought it around 1998.

But your idea sounds better. Remember, recording to WAV files might
take up to 1mb per minute or more.

Give Audiograbber a go, can record direct to mp3, plus more, make sure
you get the freeware version. I've been using it to record early morning
comedies.
