Time-out while writing e-mail

I'm trying to coach my 85-year old mom long distance. She uses aol to send
and receive e-mail. She's a bit slow in writing her notes, and often gets
timed out and she thinks she's losing whatever she was writing. (I'm not
sure exactly what's happening...sometimes she "finds" her started e-mails
again.)

I found the time-out setting in aol, and changed in to 8 hours. It's still
happening. Maybe it's the internet connection and not aol. She has a
broadband connection. Where in the internet connection options might I find
settings related to timing out of sessions? Thanks for any info.

What anti-virus software is your Mother using?

I'm not sure. It's a fairly new computer for her, and she didn't buy any
additional anti-virus software. So whatever came out of the box on her HP
bought at Best Buy is what she has.

Since I don't know AOL software and what is bundled in it, you make a tough
call for me.
My best guess it that there is third-party anti-virus software that is causing the
email time-outs.
Recommendation - assuming - you must be sure of this, to turn of email scanning
as this is the most common issue to sending/receiving email time-outs.
You could call the Best Buy where the machine was purchased and asked what
third-party software was shipped with the machine.
