Time is not correct

I have to update my time on Windows every few days!!!
Any ideas as to why this is happening? The time slows and
gets behind.

CMOS/Battery is dead/dying on your motherboard?
 
Probably needs a new "coin" battery on the motherboard but besides that I've
noticed that quite often the time server that comes built in to XP can't be
found.
Rt click on the clock & select "Adjust date / time" & then click on the
"Internet time" tab.
Type in
time-nw.nist.gov
& then UPDATE TIME NOW.
Make sure it remains set to use that one from now on. Now it should correct
your clock every day. (If you go online of course)

If the system loses time while it is turned off then the problem is
with the battery on the motherboard, as mentioned by other responders.

If the system loses time while it is running then the problem is with
some item of software that is running on the computer. Some malware
items (viruses, trojans, spyware, etc) have been noted as having this
effect, and also some application programs. I believe that at least
one version of Norton Antivirus is known to cause this problem.

Can you tell me if this is something I can do myself, or do I need to take it
to
a shop and have it done?

I have no idea of your skill level.
Have you ever changed the battery in anything?

Power off and unhook from all external power...
Open the computer, look for the battery on the large circuit board (looks
like a giant watch battery) and figure out how to carefully remove it. Take
it to Radio Shack/Wal~Mart/Target/Walgreens/CVS/Circuit City/Best Buy/etc...
and get a new one. Put the new one in the old one's place.
Hook all power back to the computer and power it back on.

At that point - the batter is replaced. You may need to go into your system
BIOS and setup the time/date there (but that will be in your computer
manual.)
