time for new processor?

I'm using a AMD Atthlon xp 2000 1.66ghz. wondering if it wound be benifical
to upgrade to a better on. i'm happy with the one i have just want better. i
have 768 of ram,play alot of games, what kind? why that kind? don't bother?
what do you suggest?

If you're happy with the one you have right now and don't feel the need to
upgrade then i'd be inclined to say wait until you're not quite so happy. If
you are happy with AMD products then have you looked at the Athlon 64 range?

What kind of games are you interested in? Things like Far Cry & Half Life 2
will take all the processor and video card that you can throw at them...
 
Depends on how old the MoBo is, your MoBo might only
support up to a XP 2200, which isn't much faster then the
xp2000+. You might need to download a newer BIOS for the
Mobo, and/or play with the CPU FSB clock, and or
multiplier factor settings in BIOS to get a stable
system. Changing the CPU can be costly, you could end up
purchasing a new Mobo and memory, if your not too sure
about the Mobo you have now is able to support.

Which is why I suggested that if they were happy with things as they were
(which is what the post said) that they should not change until they were
unhappy.
 
a robert thnx for the time. i'm using a asus deluxe a7n8x-e, and it quotes 3
kind of processors can be used AMD athlon, " " XP and " duron. what are
these. different ghz, cache? My VC is a radon 9600. yea i play far cry. i
had to update driver for VC. and all fixed. i just don't want to left hangin
in midair with no option but buy or don't play. oh what wound the noticable
changes be if i did change processors. thnx agin........
