After taking a look at the 2003 beta and my "Slightly OT" post from
yesterday, I will positively say that it is now time for MS to offer 2
versions of FP 2003... one for beginners and the present one for the more
advanced. (Was that why there used to be FP EXpress?) And how about 2 forums
also... again one for beginners and another for so many of the rest of us??
Read the posts for Slightly OT and respond here, if you will please.

I agree there should be two versions, but it will not happen, at least at
this point.

However, we don't any additional newsgroups!

Curious.... Has anyone compiled a FAQ of the common questions asked here to
refer people to instead of repeating the same answer over everyday? I think
Tom must have a clipboard that he copies from to answer some of these
questions, either that or a F5 macro key set for some of these answers..
LOL.

I'm Also very curious Eleanor why you are advocating two versions, on for
novice users and one for the rest of us? I agree that there should be
different ng's depending on the type of question. I always try to search the
newsgroup before I post. But, that's just me being me. If I had a following,
I would be happy to host a FP Advanced Users NG on my server or existing
Forum.

I think that's what was in mind when the current menus were developed. The
thought was that features you used often would be available to you, and
those that you didn't use often would be hidden. Turns out that most people
hate that feature. They want everything visible even if they aren't using
everything.

I think there are SO many things to like about the improvements in FP2003
that aren't there to add complexity, but instead, alleviate it! Look at
things like IntelliSense support, the Quick Tag Selector and Quick Tag
Editor, the Page Size feature, Split view. These are all GREAT additions to
FrontPage that just make it so much more of a joy to use.

My point is this; how do you decide which features to include in which
version? Microsoft tried this approach with another popular product: Flight
Simulator. They released a Standard edition and a Professional edition.
That product has reverted to one release. Anyone who has ever used Flight
Simulator knows that it is much more complex than FrontPage. :)

here.
Want? Need?
ETC

However, we don't want any additional newsgroups, as that would just confuse
users on where to post questions, so you end up with a lot of cross
postings.

A number of the MVPs have FAQs on their sites:

The problem even with a FAQ database is that
people are befuddled by terminology. That is,
they don't know the proper words to describe
what they're trying to do.

A perfect example of this is an "include" page.
If a person doesn't know what an include page is
and what it does, they don't know what to ask.
So they post "how do I make things appear on more than
one page."
There needs to be a "visual help" file with a "click this part
of the image to see what it is and how it's done"
This is true of all programs not just FP.

Also imho, having two versions would cause
more frustration and confusion. Imagine the frustration
as a user with the beginner version starts getting the
"this function is not supported in the beginner version, you
must now buy the professional version"

Imagine the time saved by all of us who help out here if a FAQ was prepared
that we could all mention. I'll certainly be willing to collect them if you
MVPs and many others who help want me to?
