I have a Windows 2k3 Server with an XP Pro client. When the client tries
logging into the domain, an error comes up which does not let the client log
in. The error is something like this - "The time on the client is not the
same as the time on the network. To log in, see administrator." Since I'm the
admin on this machine and have never seen this before, I was hoping someone
could help me out here. How can I fix this without reinstalling XP? Also,
local login not working on the client either (fogotten password).

Power Off the client computer, power it on and go into the computer's BIOS
settings. Set the time to something that is close to the time on the
server, the start Windows XP.

See if that helps.

You may be able to reset the local Administrator's password on the client
computer by using Computer Management from another computer, but until the
time difference problem is corrected, this may not work.

On another computer (XP Pro, Windows 2000 or Windows 2003), logon with an
account that is a member of a group that is in the Administrators group on
the client computer (by default, the Domain Admins group is a member of the
local Administrators group).

1. open Computer Management
2. right click on "Computer Management (Local)" in the left pane and select
Coannect to another computer
3. key the computer name of the client; press Enter

Now any actions you take in Computer Management affect the client computer.

Hi Jason,
Firstly boot the machine in safe mode. Log on locally as Administrator,
Check the time zone and make sure Am and PM as well as that they are in the
same zone and not confused. You can set the server to be an authorative time
server in KB816042.
This should resolve the issue.
