Make sure you didn't put the battery in upside
down if it's a coin-style lithium (CR2032 or similar).

Or, the new battery could be dead...they do sit on the shelves
for some time before sale and can also be just plain defective.

HI!
I seem to have a problem with my computer losing the date and time,
(intermittent) on restart, after a nightly shut down.
Changed the battery (CMOS) but still the problem persists.
Any ideas? Thank's

The clock generator chip on the motherboard could be going bad.
Thank's, checked the battery orientation and voltage they are OK.
You may be right about the clock chip, but I also noticed that, the
last time I started up it did not pick up one of my drives either, on
the first attempt, checked cables etc. they seem OK.
Backed everything up just in case.
Could the CMOS chip be playing up?

No, it sounds like the motherboard itself is going.

Or power supply.

There are WAAAYYY too many cheap, out-of-tolerance
and/or underpowered PSU's out there, causing all KINDS
of weird problems.

After replacing the battery, did you review your settings in BIOS?
Especially those for date/time? Windows will pick up date/time from BIOS at
startup. From there, Windows handles time advancement that you see within
the operating system. You should confirm that the values that Windows picks
up at startup are correct.

Ouch! Sorry to hear this. I just lost a motherboard a few weeks ago, so can
sympathize.
