Time adjustment: W32Time fails D4Time OK

I have for a long time fought my Windows XP HE fully updated
on automatic clock syncronization.

Once upon a time I believe I can have seen W32Time occationally
successful (as reported in EVENTVWR), but now I only have
error reports.

As I have two other computers (running W98 and W98SE) on my
local network and for those I use D4Time which works without
any problem I tried to see if D4Time would run satisfactory on my
XP as well. It did, so I believe I can eliminate all questions about
firewall filtering etc? (Turning XP Firewall off made no difference!)

So what can be the reason for my problems with W32Time?

BTW: My local network is connected to Internet through a DLINK
NAT router.

Grateful for any comments or suggestions.

Oh no, I am using a local and very reliable time server at the
university in Oslo. There is no problem with that one when I
access it with D4TIME.

By the way, this evening I have had one single successful
clock update!

That did in fact solve my problems, at least for now!

But can you (or anybody) enlighten me why W32TIME
apparently is so much more critical then D4TIME on which
time server is used? (And what is so special about
tock.usno.navy,mil?)

I have no problems with a local time server at the university
in Oslo when using D4TIME, but W32TIME reports error
on almost every attempt (occationally I have had succdessful
updates with W32TIME).

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion!

Tock.usno.navy.mil is a United states military (navy) site. Never have
problems with them as you have and will see.
