Hi,

we have a W2K Server DC that we have deployed out to
site. The question is, how long can this be sitting in
the box for and still be a DC on the domain? It may be
up to 3 weeks until we can get it to see one of the other
DC's in the domain. Are there any things I need to do to
make sure that this move goes smoothly?

Regards,

Thanks, sorry about the multi post.

Is there anything that needs to be done when
reconnecting? or is it just plug it in and let it catch
up?

an technet articles on this?

Cheers,

Jason

Yep, 60 days is the default because of the Tombstone lifetime. If you put a
DC back after 60 days, objects that have been deleted will come back unless
you increase the tombstone lifetime.

Default tombstone period is 60 days and that is your first limit. If you have modified your lifetime to say 14 days, you
would have 14 days. However if you have modified your tombstone period beyond 60 days then you can run into an issue
with machine account passwords and have to do a reset. A machine that comes up on a network can have a password that has
been expired up to the length of time of one password expiration policy and still get on ok, after that you need a
reset.
