Timbuktu Pro --- Argh!

So, Windows Defender got around to doing a regularly scheduled scan (for the
first time), detected Timbuktu Pro (remote control softwrae that I have
installed on purpose), and removed it automatically! This is even though I
UNCHECKED "Apply default actions to items detected during a scan." What's
worse is that it doesn't seem to be completely removed, so I am having
trouble getting it installed again.

I think that if "Apply default actions to items detected during a scan" is
not selected, it should wait for you to decide what to do with what it found
before doing anything, right?

Yes it should--I'm not sure whether it would be useful to see the system
event log message for the cleaning operation...That probably doesn't
indicate whether the switch was set or not.

If you can't uninstall via add or remove programs, and you can't install,
the next thing to try would be the Windows Installer Cleanup tool--if this
uses the Windows installer.

I was able to get it reinstalled after copying the program files over from
another machine that had Timbuktu Pro installed, and then running the
uninstaller (which had been giving me errors). After a reboot, Windows
Defender notified me that evil software was installed, I chose to ignore it,
then manually ran a scan and chose to "Always Ignore" it. So now, all is
good.

It's just irritating that Windows Defender decided to remove it behind my
back when the auto scan ran, even though I had unchecked the automatically do
stuff option.

Thanks for your response!

That would be a very bad bug--can you confirm what version of Windows
Defender you are on?

Go to Help, About--and you want the top version number.
