tiff corruption in conversion to powerpoint 2007

Most of the embedded tiffs in my medical imaging presenations were corrupted
? poor compression? when converted to 2007. If not corrected this could be
very problematic for anyone who uses tiff for presentation. there are
hundreds of images, most unique and irreplaceable, in each ppt file. any
solutions? plans to fix?

Don't use beta software? ;-)

To fix the problem MS will need to narrow it down somewhat.

Can you reproduce the problem by doing this:

- Start with a new blank presentation in whatever version of PPT you use
(include some text to indicate this on the slide)

- Add a blank slide and use Insert, Picture, From File to bring in one or two
of your example TIFFs. (Or use whatever method you currently use, but note it
on the slide also. Note also the source of the TIFFs - application and version
that created them.)

- Save

- Open in PPT2007 and see corrupted images (make a screenshot of same and save
it in an independent PNG file)

If so, I'll be happy to forward the info to MS so they can attempt to solve the

Honestly more concerned this factor will be incorporated into product
thanover the corruption of one file. I was able to retrieve an old version.
I will do as you suggest in a day or two. The images had lost dynamic range
as if poorly compressed. I could send you images pre and post faster.

That's what I understood you to mean, and appreciate it.

I was able to retrieve an old version.

Better's better than faster <g>.
In order to solve the problem, they'll have to replicate it. Ideally starting with
a blank presentation as I mentioned, because if you begin with an existing
presentation, there's no way of telling what kind of history is built into it ...
what other versions it's been through.

To drive Steve's point home: I submitted a presentation that had mangled
up pictures to MS as PPT 2007 bug a while ago. MS figured out that the
reason for this was a bug in PPT 2003...Had the presentation been
created with a blank slate in PPT 2007, it would have been evident that
it wasn't a 2007 issue.

Thanks for that ... makes things much clearer!
 
Appreciate your efforts. Nearly all my presentations have beeen through
multiple generations of ppt. Is there a way to 'clean' them in 2003 before
trying 2007 again. (FYI) Will work your trial this weekend.
 
Did the following:… made new ppt file in 2003
Alt –i-p-f 2 images. One from a dig camera and one from efilm dicom viewer
ver 1.5.3 which was a dicom image exported as tiff.
Saved the ppt and exported the frame as png
Emailed to another pc that had the beta installed over 2003.
Opened the file (images looked fine) hit save (by accident..dont know the
new ribbon) and the tiff image (only) appeared corrupted (note the reduced
grey scale and ‘sheen’)
Exported the 2007 frame as png. Note that the corruption incident initially
was on my laptop and this event was on a new desktop.

I am pleased to see the issue is reproducible
 
Followup:

I've gotten the sample images and was able to recreate the same problem from scratch here.

Interestingly, it requires both a JPG and a TIF on the same slide, it seems. Just the TIF
by itself didn't provoke the problem.
