Tidy Desktop

right-click on the desktop, go to Active Desktop, and uncheck Show Desktop
Icons.

I keep my desktop clear, but if there's a file or program I want to run from
there, I just go back in ... check Show Desktop Items ... have my session,
and go back.

I also use the Quick Launch toolbar for the programs I most often use.

Any simple progs for keeping a desktop tidy and organized?

I use Wintidy 2. I've had it for a long time. The only place I have found
to download it is at PCMAG - but maybe someone else here has an
alternative download link ...

For the 'sweep the dirt under the rug' approach, Double Desktop
from http://www.fatfreesoft.com, if they haven't moved.

Two desk tops, the one you use and the one you show off. :-)

Seriously, if you group similar programs, by moving icons into
folders, a messy desktop will look better and still be effective.

I've been using FastFolder for a couple of weeks. Works great; I had
to keep all my shortcuts on the desktop, because I would otherwise
forget that I had the programs. Early Alzheimers? Nah, it's probably
the medication...

Right now I have 4 color-coded folders running in the tray. You could
use only one, because each folder pops up with a list of real folders
(Graphics, Utilities, WWW, etc.) that you have to create on your HD,
and then it's a simple matter of dragging (move) your desktop icons to
the proper folder shown in Explorer. I've made it harder than it
really is; read the docs.
