Thunderbird mail extraction

I would like to transfer my T'bird mail to Outlook, but cannot find a
converter for sbd folders and msf files. Anyone got any ideas?
The Thunderbird web page says that Thunderbird stores its messages in
standard mbox format which just about all standard email programs use.

Outlook may or may not be able to import these files. I would look
through the Outlook menus and see if there is one to import email and
what formats it supports.

I believe there are also Microsoft Usenet newsgroups and I bet there is
one for Outlook if the above does not work. Someone has probably written
some sort of utility to import mbox files if Outlook does not support
them natively.

I heard that this would be coming soon to a new version of Thunderbird.

Thanks. I should have thought of looking there.
They used to use mbox format, but it looks as if things have changed.

I would guess, but don't have a machine handy to look, that Outlook will
import an mbox file.

Doing a quick Google search shows a lot of different ways to get email
out of Outlook and Outlook Express, but very little about importing
email.

Another option would be to see if Outlook Express will import mbox files.
Then see if Outlook will import Outlook Express files.

Good luck.

(Sorry -- I just found this amusing. Thunderbird uses a standard method,
so the MS program might not be able to read it ... Oy.)

I have found that they are indeed .mbx files but they are stored without
the extension. Odd.
However I have managed to extract the files as .eml files into a folder I
created. Now I have to get them from there into Outlook.
Have yet to figure out how.

Transferring anything to Outlook is a pain. One way I have found is
install an old version of Eudora, say the freeware 3.0.6, and drop the
Thunderbird folders (they have no extension) into the Eudora folder,
usually C:\Eudora. They then have to be renamed by adding the .mbx
extension. Do all this with Eudora closed.

Restart Eudora and access all the folders. That way, Eudora will create
the .toc index files that Outlook searches for when it tries to import
from Eudora. The import will then work - Outlook imports directly from
Eudora.

Just had a go at that. XP stores files in different locations but I
found the right place (I think). When I transferred to Outlook, it didn't
want to know; when I tried OE I got the folders, but no mails :o(

Sometimes with OE, you have to move the mails back to the root folder.

<snip>
Thanks I did it with the partial help of a java program called
mbox2eml.jar which meant I had to then load them into OE 1 by 1 and
finally OE to Outlook.
I should have checked first as most of them were not worth keeping :o(
