Since I have upgraded to thinderbird 1.0.5 I have the following problem

I send an email to a friend and he replies.
I can read his reply to my email ok but I expect to see my original
email to him under his reply with two vertical lines one on each side of
my original text.

The two vertical lines are there but none of my original text.

When I print the email the reply and my origunal text enclosed by the
two vertical lines are all printed out, so the whole text is there.

I have reinstalled thunderbird 1.0.5 from a fresh download but this did
not make any difference.

Any one have any idears how to fix this problem.

Is there a reason for you to stay at 1.0.5? Latest Thunderbird version
is 1.5.0.4!

And if there is some reason to stay with 1.0.x, you should at least get
1.0.8 for the bugfixes.

just a guess but;

Open tools then options then display
change the text colour to a different one from the background (click on the
colour box to bring up the palette)

Many appologies, that was a rash guess, since it blanks out everything.
However it is to do with the text being the same colour as the background
and you can reproduce by:
Open <tools> then <options> then <composition> then <HTML options>. Change
the text to white same as background.
The quoted (html) text will now be invisible but your text is visible.

In the HTML options there is a "restore defaults" button - I can click this
forever more but it does not restore the text colour.

Solution (mine anyway)

In the Tbird "Profile" folder find the prefs.js file
I use portable Tbird which keeps everything together, but regular Tbird
keeps it in "..\Documents and Settings\.." somewhere - do a search for it.
Then back it up just in case.

Open the pref.js file in a text editor - suppose notepad will do. There is a
note at the top of the file saying do not edit - ignore this good advice.
look for the following line - its about line 60 in my file.

user_pref("mail.citation_color", "#FFFFFF");
change this to
user_pref("mail.citation_color", "#000001");
and save it.

All being well the quoted text will be restored.
