Thunderbird 0.7 is out, this is the definite milestone release based on
the release candidate from a few days ago.

Is there anything freeware that will let me use Hotmail with it? All I can
find is payware.

Indirect route, but it works: Open a free email account at fastmail.fm,
set it to download your hotmail, then access your fastmail account with
Thunderbird via IMAP.

I recently found MrPostman for this :

From the website :

Works very nicely...
