This is unbelievable
We had a severe rain storm earlier during which my pc got rebooted after
lightning.
The bootup process reached until after the Windows XP logo with the green
status bar, after that I got a black screen with the white mouse pointer
which responded to the mouse moving but nothing else.
The only way to reboot was to hold the on/off button of the pc. But still
same result. I was able to boot in safe mode with no problem. Finally I
managed to get it to reboot normally by unplugging everything from the
wall. But found that my network card wasn't being detected at all and
figured it must have been damaged the thunder.
Seeing as I have a cabled and wireless setup I fitted in a wireless adaptor
that I had and installed the driver but just as it was finishing the process
(the little paper from folder to folder to indicate installation) it started
to go extremely slow, this lasted for 15 minutes or more until is stopped
all together, nothing responded so I had to use the on/off switch.
Now it just won't bootup again. I've tried the plugs from the wall trick but
nothing. It won't even start in Safe mode. In safe mode it gets to where it
lists
multi(0)disk......windows\system32\drivers\mup.sys
and then just stops there.
Please please help

Looks like you got a high spike voltage from the lightning strike,
You mother board may be fried.

Thanks for your reply!
I thought as much but shouldn't it not have worked at all ?
How is it that it did work in between time
Is it worth fixing or better getting a new one?

Good news. I removed the wireless adapter and it booted up normally.
Don't know what to do now about getting networked
