Windows XP loads thumbnails a lot faster than Vista does. Does anyone agree
and or is anyone else experiencing a lengthy amount of time for thumbnails
to load? Thanks.

Uh-huh.

Vista 32 bit RC1 thumbnails appear far swifter with less disk thrashing than
XP Pro.

5,000+ JPEGs
2,400+ GIFs
3,600+ PNGs
640+ PSDs
2,100+ XPRs

on this computer.

With an additional advantage that Vista thumbnails cater for XPR filetypes
whereas WDS in XP Pro does not yet seem to support XPR file type thumbnails.

All-in-all, it rocks!

Additional observation:

Vista 64 bit was far slower in showing thumbnails. This may be user based
as it has been a while since I tried Vista 64 bit and indexing settings may
count against this comparison.

However, what appears to be really interesting out of the three OSs tried
(XCP Pro - Windows desktop Search, Vista 32 bit Search, Vista 64 bit search
(both RC1)) is that only Vista 32 bit displays XPR files as thumbnails.

Its noticeably slower, but I would assume it varies especially if your
hardware is over 3 years old like mine. Its probably as a result of the
video card since Vista off puts graphics rendering to the card.

System Specs:
AMD Sempron 64 2800+ OC'd @ 1.8GHz (3.7 rating)
1.5GB of PC-2700 RAM (DDR) (4.1 rating)
Asus K8N socket 754 motherboard
Ati Radeon X1600 PRO AGP 8x 256MB GDDR2 video card (4.4 GPU rating & 4.7
gaming graphics rating)
WD 80GB 7200RPM 2MB cache HD IDE ATA100 - Windows XP - C:
WD 120GB 7200RPM 8MB cache HD IDE ATA100 - 2 60GB partitions - D: - personal
file storage; E: - Vista (5.0 rating)

XP's thumbnails appear almost instantly while Vista might show three or four
thumbnails every two seconds from time to time. Sometimes most of them in a
folder will show up instantly, then slowly load a few others.

Yes, it's a lot slower. Probably due to the changes they made with the
Thumbnail engine.

It no longer stores a thumbs.db in the source folder - but creates a local
database of Thumbnails. Unfortunately, this DB get very large over time and
consequently access slows down the larger it gets.
