Thumbnails issue - corrupted?

Good afternoon,

My computer has generated a problem with the images displayed in folders:
When viewing images (in the My Pictures folder for example) if the View is
set to Thumbnails, the folder takes a very long time to display the pictures
and when it finally does display them, they are very small and difficult to
see. If I then Refresh the folder, then the images appear almost immediately
and at their correct Thumbnail size.

I have attempted to repair the icons using TweakUI, however, this has not
corrected the issue.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thank you,

Jamie

A note about TweakUI and thumbnail size.

[[Keep in mind that higher quality and larger thumbnails require more disk
space, which is not usually a problem, but they also take longer to display.
Changing the quality does not affect thumbnails that already exist on the
file system. ]]

Try this.

Start | Run | Type: control folders | Click OK |
View tab | UNCheck: Do not cache thumbnails |
Click Apply | Click OK

Do not cache thumbnails
[[Disables automatic storage of folder thumbnails in a cache file. When you
store thumbnail images in a cache file, Windows can reuse them instead of
creating new ones every time you open a folder. If you disable this
automatic storage function, folders that contain thumbnails
might take longer to open.]]

The thumbs.db file is generated by Windows. It is a
database file containing the small images displayed when you view a folder
in thumbnail view (as opposed to tile, icon, list, or detail view).

Thumbs.db file contains the thumbnails for a particular folder.

Windows XP uses a compressed database file (Thumbs.db) to increase
performance.

I performed the actions as you asked however:

The "Do not cache thumbnails" option was already unticked. I tried checking
the box, rebooting the computer and then tried to view my folders with images
in them again, but the issue was still there. I then unchecked the box (to
move inline with your reply) and then rebooted the computer again. This did
not resolve the issue.

Below are three links, which are images outlining the problems I am having.

Link 1; (Thumbnail View) When I first open a folder that contains images,
the thumbails appear very small within their frames:

Link 2; If I then Refresh the folder, the images expand to fill the frame
and you can then tell which image is which:

Link 3; (Icon View) If the folder containing the images is set to the Icon
view, the icons do not appear as the application icon, but as the actual
image itself. Even if I refresh the folder, this is not changed:

Many thanks for the help,

Jamie Rigby
