Anything but Thumbnails.

thank you for your response, but that's not what i need.

i want to delete all cached thumbnails from the hard drive.
i changed the quality of the thumbnails, but the settings did not effect
existing thumbnails. i need to delete them, then open up the folder
again to create new ones.

checking the "do not cache thumbnails" checkbox in "folder properties"
does not work. that is, it creates new thumbnails every time i open a
folder with thumbnails view enabled, but when i clear the "do not cache
thumbnails" checkbox again, the old thumbnails show up.

i need to get rid of all the thumbnails, then create new ones with the
new quality settings. deleting thumbs.db does not do the job.

Do not cache thumbnails
[[Disables automatic storage of folder thumbnails in a cache file. When you
store thumbnail images in a cache file, Windows can reuse them instead of
creating new ones every time you open a folder. If you disable this
automatic storage function, folders that contain thumbnails might take
longer to open.]]
This disables the cache, not the thumbnails themselves.

Check this setting:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advance
d
DisableThumbnailCache REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

277. Enable or Disable Thumbnail View
========
Try this.
1. Make sure Thumbnail Cache is disabled.
Check the Registry setting.
2. Disable Thumbnail View.
3. Delete thumbs.db
4. Reboot.
5. Set quality of the thumbnails (TweakUI?)
6. Enable Thumbnail View.
7. Thumbs.db will be recreated.
