Can you list the relevant bug ID for this problem? I'm assuming it exists (or
I'm going to go create one). I'd like to track it. It's a very annoying bug
for a clean installation of your newest OS. I wish I'd seen and reported it
during beta.

I don't have a Bug ID for this issue, and also not sure if this was reported earlier.

I visited this site today with the same problem. When I followed Ramesh's
directions and clicked on the "spelling" tab, I found that "English" was
already selected as the default choice, but noticed that the "apply" button
was active, so I clicked on "apply" (not "OK") and my problem was solved.

I have done all the above and still get the message.....
This is a clean install of Vista.....
What now?

Select a different language from the drop-down, and click OK to close the dialog. Re-open Tools - Options - Spelling tab, and this time select "English", and click OK.

I tried Ramesh's suggestion below to no avail. In fact, no language drop down
appeared. Suggestions?

The registry setting looks correct.

Alternately, you may use the following REG file to set the default spell check language:
http://www.winhelponline.com/fixes/spellchk_settings.reg

Download the file to Desktop. Right-click on the file and choose Merge. Click "Yes" to confirm. Note that this REG file does not bring back the language options in the "Spelling" tab dropdown box, but sets English as the default language. Let's know how this goes.

You need to click the Tools menu in the Windows Mail main screen, *not* the one in the new message window.

I tried Ramesh's solution however I do not get an "Option's category" under
the tools menu.

Also as a side note: I have had to fix a few workstations with this error.
On some occasion I had to change the language to French or German for
example and apply, than go back and change it to English. Then it worked
without error.
