How do I get rid of the default setting for bullets? I do
NOT want to automatically get a bullet setting every time
I type an indented number with a period. I spend more
time removing the dumb things than I would setting them up
from scratch!!!
HELP!!!
Thanks for your input.

Suzanne,
Try: Tools > Autocorrect... > AutoFormat As You Type and uncheck Automatic
Bulleted Lists. Then do the same for the Tools > Autocorrect... >
Autoformat tab.

Many people also uncheck all the Apply options in these tabs.

If you do get an automatic bullet in this way, you can undo it by pressing
CTRL-Z once. In Word 2002 (at least), this action displays a sort of
lightning bolt symbol -- if you click on this, you get the option to stop
automatic bullets (probably just for the rest of the document, I am not sure
of the scope).

Cheers,
Lyn.

Hi Suzanne,

Click Tools> AutoCorrect.
Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab
Uncheck "Automatic bulleted lists"

While you're there, look over the rest of that tab for
other things that a likely majority of users would like
to disable if they knew how. (Then spread the word...)
One thing you should definitely disable is the last box,
"Define styles based on your formatting," which in effect
tells Word to GUESS at your intentions and devise & apply
its own styles to your document -- without telling you.
You can imagine how well that works...

Hi Suzanne,

From the Tools menu, select AutoCorrect and then go to the AutoFormat As You
Type tab and uncheck the Apply as you type - Automatic bulleted lists and
Automatic numbered lists items.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the

Hope this helps
