i just received an email with an attachment, can't open it
because there's an icon i've seen before, (little coloured
things in rows on a white page with right upper corner
turned over) - when i try to open tells me can't as don't
know what program created it.
My sister sent it, she has a Macintosh, but has sent lots
to other people who I suppose some have "ibm compatible"
computers, (does that terminology still apply or am i a
dinosaur?)
I've only opened 2 email attachments before that worked
OK, i'm fairly new to all this madness.
Thanks for your help, regards, Lyn

You need to ask your sister what kind of file it is or what program she used
to create it.
One problem that I see alot, is Mac users tend to send files without
extensions (the last 3 letters after the period in the name). If it still
has the extension, what is it?

Lyn, what is the attachment extension? If it is a .pps
then you would need Powerpoint or at least the Powerpoint
viewer which you can download from MS. If it's .pdf then
you would need Acrobat Reader which you can also download
from Adobe, they have a free reader version.
Please advise what the attachment extension is?

"ibm compatible" is perfectly acceptable. But, "PC" is the normal
designation and easier to type. :)
