Okay.
XP - MSN 6.2 both sides.

Basically, my friend is in university. We've tried using cam and mic but
neither will work. Although the Instant Messaging works fine but nothing
else does... It's the mighty university firewalls -- there's no way around
them is there?

Someone directed me to "skype".. but that gets stopped as well...

Greetings Daveguy,

Skype uses the same technology that's used in Kazaa and as such, may not work through an
university firewall (or whatever they have setup) as it may appear to be Kazaa-like packets
being sent back and forth (which obviously the universities want to stop).

Regardless, when you say you tried the camera, do you mean you simply hit the Webcam button?
If so, the Webcam feature can actually make use of a relay server in order to "relay" your
video connection. Since this didn't work, it sounds highly likely that the university may be
using some type of proxy server (or similar) and as such, won't allow you to utilize more
than text-based conversations within Messenger (and anything else for that matter).
