Hi Everyone...

This weekend, I put together a test guinea pig machine, and found that going
to this site:

does VERY nasty things to a Windows PC (DO NOT GO IN THERE!!!). Even with
Microsoft Antispyware installed, adware/spyware keeps being installed and
reinstall. I am on my 4th deep scan of the hard drive, and this time, I have
even more buggers on the hard drive.

Keep in mind that all of these nasties installed themselves right in front
of Microsoft antispyware. That scares me a bit.

Any chances that MS will bolster things a bit?

Me too. :-(

Do you mean they installed themselves with input from you, and you're just
commenting that MSAS didn't flag them as spyware?

Or just visiting the site installed all of these things with NO input
whatsoever from you?

They installed themselves with input from me. I was trying to see how
"tough" MS antispyware is. It didn't stop me from being an idiot :-(

LOL ... good one, Marc. Unfortunately, there is no known soft or
hardware that is idiot proof :)
p.s. I did the same thing on an even more lethal site just to see if
MSAS could clean it up. It did, but took a lonnnnng time to do so.

Perhaps we should be pushing the slogan " Just click NO ! "

Breaking news! I performed this same test using Computer Associates' EZ
PestPatrol antispyware. Just like Microsoft's product, it was not able to
keep the nasties from invading my test system. However...

....it was able to completely eradicate all traces of spyware from the
system, something that MSAS could not do. I also infected the system without
any protection whatsoever, let the sytem "cook" for a while to ensure proper
infection, and then ran a cleanup of CA's product. To my surprise,
PestPatrol removed every lick of spyware on the FIRST PASS!!!! I'm amazed
(and have found my new antispyware champion).

Hey...by the way, what lethal site did you try? I'd like to test CA's
product against it.

Thanks!
