'This program has performed an illegal operation'

Hi there...I use Win 98. Lately, when I close my Explorer
browser, the 'illigal operation' msg comes up, followed by
the 'if you are experiencing problems, you may need to
restart your computer' I have run scan disk, disk
cleanup, defragmenter, Norton anti-virus scan...is there
anything else I can do to fix this?

There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite).
